North Carolina based artist, Courtney Curtiss has been active in the arts for almost thirty years. With a Bachelor and Masters Degree in Art History, she held the position of Curator and Registrar at the Boca Raton Museum of Art in Florida for close to ten years, acting as judge in jurored art competitions and writing artist and museumfocused articles for Internationally circulated magazine, Florida Arts Magazine. In addition to her Museum and Gallery tenure, she has enjoyed working in various mediums through the years, enjoying it all and gaining knowledge and skills that now allow her to blend mediums. Most recently, Courtney has pursued training in metal work and printmaking but finds that textile and fiber resonate especially well with her more organic creative process which she sometimes refers to as "doodling." Rarely beginning a work with a specific vision in mind, she usually starts with a general idea, a shape, a color or even a blank "canvas," following the creative path as it is built. This more-free form method can result in some quirky or unusual results. Sometimes its a complete flop. Always, its fun. While the doodle process remains loose and free-form, Courtney has always had a love of old worn things, texture, contrast and color and these always make their way into her works.
